The #TECNOOwnTheStage karaoke competition is getting hotter and this much was made evident on the 10th episode of the show. The night’s show commenced with the Host, Vimbai Munthiri announcing that the contestants will be performing songs originally performed by the judges – M.I., Yemi Alade. The contestants seemed on top of their game perhaps because of the star prize of $25,000, a recording deal, and a brand new TECNO Phantom 5 smartphone.
Before the contestants went up, Nigerian singer Falz the Bad Guy, stepped on stage to perform his hit song ‘Karishika’ to the delight of the audience.
His performance was followed by Nandy who was the first contestant on stage. The beautiful Tanzanian performed Sauti Sol’s ‘Nishike’. Bien who is the lead singer of the group Sauti Sol spoke on the meaning of the title of the song which he said was a swahili word meaning ‘touch me’. He gave Nandy positive raves for her good delivery but criticised her for not being able to bring the ‘sexiness’ of the song to life.
The second contestant on stage was the Kenyan Ramar254 who sang a different Sauti Sol song, ‘Money Lover’. The Kenyan was criticised by his compatriot – Bien, who faulted him for missing his lines but MI came to the defense of Ramar254 as he jokingly called the song ” a terrible piece of music”.
The Nigerian, Shaapera was the third contestant on stage and she gave a beautiful rendition of Yemi Alade’s ‘Johnny’. It was revealed that the Nigerian had been involved in an accident hours before the show commenced. The revelation earned her love, adoration and respect from the judges with Bien giving her 10/10. Sikin was next up on stage and she performed Yemi Alade’s ‘K.I.S.S.I.N.G.’. The Kenyan was praised for her effort by Yemi Alade but was however cautioned against missing her lines.
The last performance of the night was by Pascal who sang MI’s ‘One Naira’. The audience didn’t appear too impressed but the Kenyan got praises from MI for his rendition but was also reminded of the fact that he missed his lines during his performance.
After the performances, the judges announced to the audience that the Kenyan, Ramar254 stood evicted from the show leaving Sikin and Pascal from Kenya, Nandy from Tanzania and Shapeera from Nigeria in the race for the grand prize.
